Chocolate Cherry Protein Smoothie

When I started this blog, one of the main things I wanted to do was share the ways I’ve made healthier versions of the foods I crave the most (pizza is coming soon!)

There’s an ice cream that I used to get all the time that’s chocolate cherry cordial. With cherries in season, I figured now was a good time to share my Chocolate Cherry Protein Smoothie recipe!

I opted for fresh cherries, but you can use frozen if you want. If you do, you can omit the ice cubes.

The chocolate in this recipe is mostly from the protein powder. But to give that little extra yum factor, I added a small amount of dark chocolate chips and it completely elevated the smoothie. With the addition of the protein powder, this smoothie can now be a healthy meal when you’re on-the-go.

When you’re on your weight loss journey, you want to get as much of your nutrition from real, whole foods. Protein shakes and bars should only really be used as a pre-workout snack or when you don’t have access to food. It’s not healthy to replace all meals with them.

This smoothie makes me feel like I’m eating that delicious ice cream again. And I love doing recipe recreations. It helps with cravings and keeps me on track.
